LongMoney Phil's Ambitious Grind to Fame

When it comes to success and motivation, Charleston native LongMoney Phil is on the rise,

working hard to make his way to the top. From growing up in West Ashley to winning Black

Business Prosperity’s Male Artist of the Year, LongMoney Phil credits one of his friends for

introducing him to the art of creating music. His ambitious grind led him to transform a pastime of making music into a professional music career. Four years into officially being an artist, he has several albums and some notable achievements. In 2021, LongMoney Phil celebrated some significant wins, great successes in his music career. His album, Serious Me, exceeded 1 million streams, and Serious Me Deluxe reached over 100,000 streams in less than a week of being released. For many artists, reaching these kinds of numbers is the goal, but for LongMoney Phil, this is only the beginning.

LongMoney Phil was awarded Black Business Prosperity Magazine’s Male Artist of the Year

award for 2021. He recently sat down with us to discuss his recent accomplishments, hitting the road to go on tour and what else fans can expect to see from him.

BBP: Tell us more about you. Who is LongMoney Phil and how did you get started?

LongMoney Phil: I’m from West Ashley, Charleston, South Carolina, and I began rapping when I was around 15 or 16 years old as a pastime, something to do with my friends. My homeboy from Georgia moved here, and he had a laptop and the right software. He threw all of us in a closet to record music, and it just stuck with me. Officially, I’ve been recording music for about four years, but I’ve been putting out music since I was in high school.

BBP: Serious Me has reached over 1 million streams, and the deluxe project has gotten a lot

of love too. Congratulations…that’s huge! How does it feel?

LongMoney Phil: It feels good. It feels surreal though. At the same time, I can’t let the little bit, how it feels right now, I know it’s supposed to be more than this. Even though it feels good for the moment, I be trying to push through. I’m not trying to get stuck on it. Honestly, I haven’t done enough just yet.

BBP: What’s motivating you to stay on this grind?

LongMoney Phil: The people around me – I see how it can change everybody’s life and not just mine. If I can get people out of where we at right now, it’s an opportunity to change everything off of music. That’s my motivator.

BBP: In the midst of this pandemic, how has the last year been for you?

LongMoney Phil: It’s been a constant grind, a time to grind. I’ve been in the studio and shooting videos. The shows are just starting back up. Over the past year, I’ve just been working. That’s where the music came from and how I was able to drop the project; then I dropped the deluxe project. It’s been a constant grind with all the time that we got on our hands.

BBP: What else is coming up for you?

LongMoney Phil: Features with big name artists – that’s what I’m working on to get more exposure. And we’re trying to put together a tour, for probably two months, going between

Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. With hitting the road, I’ll bump shoulders with

more artists, so that should lead to more features. Most of my music, my tracks, are solos. So, look for me to be more social, more features and collabs coming soon.

When asked what else he wants people to know about him, LongMoney Phil replied “I want

people to know I’m from Charleston, South Carolina. I’m overly ambitious; I’m not going to

stop. This not the first. I’m going to be here. I’m going to put my face out here and keep working hard to get where I have to go. I’m never going to be content. I’m going to keep

working because there’s more to come.”

LongMoney Phil’s music is available on all streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Tidal, YouTube Music, etc.).
